Sponsored Walk Raises £1,500

We entered a team of walkers in Penzance Rotary Club's Sponsored Ramble on Sunday 20th September 2009.

You can read further details of the event by clicking here

75% of the money we raised went to ACE and 25% to charities supported by Penzance Rotary Club. These were Cornwall Hospice Care, Shelter Box and The Stroke Association.

We originally set ourselves a target of £600, but friends were so generous that we raised it to £1,000 and then to £1,350.

The Route

We had a team of three - ACE trustee, Phil Budden, and friends David Gibbons and John Pring.

In the end, we exceeded our target and raised just over £1,500. We have passed on £382 to the Rotary Club.

Cream Tea

Tea on the patio

Angela and Vic Peake hosted a cream tea, in aid of ACE, at their home, Chynoey, Newmill, on Sunday 6th September 2009.

The weather forecast was very poor with heavy rain being predicted. However, it turned out better than expected and, although it was cloudy, it kept dry.

The event was well attended. As well as tea, there were plants, cakes, books, and wooden garden items for sale.

At the end of the day the treasurer announced that £387 had been raised for ACE funds.

Newmill Open Gardens 2009

Visitors to the fifth Newmill Open Gardens were greeted by the ACE's own very special constable, Vic 'the Truncheon ' Peake.

ACE trustee, Vic, manned the road junction for the whole afternoon and directed traffic to the car parks.

We were fortunate this year to have much more off-road car parking available so traffic problems were kept to a minimum.

Old PO Garden

We were blessed by a most beautiful sunny day. Rev Tim Hawkins had been praying for us again!

A constant stream of visitors came throughout the 6-hour opening period.

Many cream teas were served and we also sold plants, wooden garden items, cards, paintings and books.

There was a stall manned by Serendipity of St. Ives selling ethnic products, some of which were made in the Ugandan villages where our schools are situated. They raised £140 for ACE which will go back to the villages.

Takings for the day reached almost £3,000 and more money has come in since. Currently the total stands at £3,890. Some of this is in the form of gift-aided donations, which will add on enough to take us over £4,000.

Artshow 2009

The Jamieson Library at The Old Post Office also presented an exhibition of pottery and prints.

We featured the work of potter, Debbie Prosser, and prints by 8 members of Penwith Printmakers .

The exhibition was open each day until the following Saturday.

The draw for the winner, performed by ACE chairman, Angela Peake, was made when the show closed at 5pm on Saturday 27th.

The winner was Geoffrey Brighton of Lower Cranken Farm, Newmill.

Dog Show

On Sunday 15th March 2009 a Companion Dog Show with Pedigree and Novelty classes took place at St. John's Hall, Penzance. It was organised by Goldsithney Dog Training Club.

The winners rosettes were sponsored by GMO Cars of Eastern Green, Penzance. We are very grateful to them for their support.

The judging of the Pedigree classes took place during the morning and the Novelty classes were held in the afternoon.

ACE supporters provided refreshments and also ran a bookstall and a tombola. There were plants for sale courtesy of Marazion Bypass Nurseries.

By the end of the day £350 had been raised for ACE funds.

These were the three winners in the Pedigree section, proving, yet again, that size doesn't matter.

We are very grateful to the Goldsithney club for holding the event for ACE.
