Dog Show

A dog show, in aid of ACE, was held at Marazion Community Centre on Sunday 30th November.

It raised £227 for ACE funds.

Soup and Sandwiches at Scarborough

On Tuesday November 25th Val Hunphreys held a Soup and Sandwich lunch at her home in Scarborough. It was enjoyed by 28 people. Once again the proceeds were divided between ACE and her personal fund supporting Denis, who is in medical training in Kampala.

Val recently accompanied ACE trustees, Angela and Vic Peake, on their tour of the ACE-supported schools in Uganda. She also spent part of the time visiting with Denis.

Val wrote -

I spent five extremely happy days going off on my own with just Mandela as my driver/companion in order to visit Denis and his parents at their home and then Denis travelled back to Ishaka with us where he showed me his accommodation, took me all around the KIU Campus and the Teaching Hospital where he is studying Pathology for his third year. I am pleased to tell you that Denis continues to achieve highly with his exam results. Last Sunday he gave me the results of the Immunopathology CAT1 exams. He came top of the whole class, although he himself was rather disappointed with his marks saying they were not as high as usual although they were well above average. He said that well over half of the class didn't even reach average marks.

Open Studio

Newmill artist, Pam Furby, opened her studio at Bay of Biscay Cottage on Sunday 2nd November.

There were oil paintings, watercolours, collages, prints, cards and books for sale, and tea and cake was served.

The event raised £433 for ACE.

This painting was donated by Pam as a raffle prize.

Sponsored Walk

Marion Brockett

Marion Brockett is a retired nurse who lives in a little hamlet between Newmill and St. Ives. She learned about ACE when she attended Newmill Open Gardens.

On Sunday 12th October 2014 she did a 25.5 mile walk along the River Test in Hampshire, organised by The Rotary Club of Romsey.

So far she has raised £220. 80% of the sponsorship she earns goes to ACE and 20% to the Rotary Club charity fund.

It's not to late to give a donation. We hope you will sponsor Marion at her fundraising page. Click here.

Tea in Scarborough

Val Humphreys held another of her Strawberries and Cream Teas at 37 Hackness Road, Scalby, Scarborough on Wednesday 16th July. There was also cake stall and a raffle.

The proceeds were divided between ACE and Denis, the medical student Val supports in Uganda.

Val wrote -

We had a fine and hot day for the Strawberries and Cream event which as usual was held in my daughter, Katharine's, garden. The result far exceeded my expectations and we raised a total of 337.50 for ACE.

We also raised 336 to go towards Denis's next Semester fees and Living expenses which are due on 2nd September.

Katharine and my new helper, Karen, are shown with a tray of strawberries and tea on its way to be served to the customers.

I could not run this event on my own and thank my daughters, grand children, Karen and 2 friends who helped me on the day.

The strawberries and cream were again provided by Giulian Alonzi, of The Harbour Bar, Scarborough. My thanks to him too.

Denis continues to achieve well, having recently passed the latest CAT exams with high marks. These enable him to proceed onto his 3rd Year which will be in the teaching hospital to study Pathology.

From 21st July until 2nd August he is sitting his End of Year exams daily.

Beaver Scouts Donation to ACE

Penzance-Madron Beaver Scouts put on various events in aid of ACE during the past year. They have now presented a cheque for £473.40.

They organised a quiz night and they held a sale of books and toys. They also took part in a sponsored walk and donated the proceeds of their pantomime.

We are very grateful to them for their support.

Cream Teas at Zennor

Jean Nankervis provided cream teas at Wicca Farm in aid of ACE on 3rd & 4th July.

Although the weather didn't play its part very well, Jean managed to raise £262 for ACE funds.

Newmill Open Gardens Day 2014

Newmill Open Gardens was again very successful. On a hot summer's day we raised £3,030 for ACE funds.

ACE trustees, Janet Pye and Judith Nicholls began with a very full stall of cakes and bread and completely sold out.

There are lot more pictures on the ACE Facebook page.

Thank You, Futermans

The Futerman family in north London have again raised money for ACE by participating in a car boot sale.

They collected the magnificent sum of £540. The Gift Aid payable on that amount is £135, so ACE will receive £675.

Sponsored Skydive

Lizzy Smyth offered, over a year ago, to do a sponsored 15,000 ft. skydive for ACE. She had to wait until she was 16 years old and did the skydive on Sunday 30th March at Perranporth Skydive Centre.

Lizzy lives in St. Just and is a student at Mounts Bay School. Some of you will have met her at Newmill Open Gardens in 2013.

Afterwards, Lizzy wrote -

I finally took the plunge and jumped out the plane!! It was the most exciting experience of my life and I would no doubt do it again.

The day started off a little cloudy but with the skies clearing, I was given the go ahead to get suited up. The plane journey up was brilliant as we toured by St Ives and all along the coast.

Once we got to the correct height, we moved towards the door and jumped. There was 30 seconds of free fall followed by roughly 5 minutes of parachuting.
Thank you to everyone who has kindly sponsored me.

Happy landings!!

Lizzy raised £365 for ACE funds through sponsorship.

Golden Age Donation

Following Angela's talk to the Golden Age group at Goldsithney, a donation of £88 was received.

Inner Wheel Quiz Night

The Inner Wheel Club of Penzance organised a Quiz Night in aid of ACE on Sunday 26th January at The Yacht Inn.

It was well attended, with about 12 teams of four taking part. There was also a raffle with a good many prizes.

This picture shows one of the members of the winning team with the prize of a bottle of wine for each member.

£190 was raised for ACE funds and we are very grateful to the Inner Wheel Club for supporting ACE.
